Our Work

What are MicroSchools?
MicroSchools are small, privately run educational settings which operate free from much of the government bureaucracy and methodologies found in conventional schools. They typically feature creative, flexible, individualized learning programs, mixed-age groupings, and utilize a child and family-centered approach. MicroSchools are diverse by design and are defined by the vision and values of their founders and the community of learners and families whom they serve.
Our Commitment to Quality
The National Council for MicroSchool Education (NCMSE) was founded to provide a thorough, yet flexible accreditation program to assist MicroSchools in establishing excellence and credibility within the growing field of MicroSchool education. We wholeheartedly subscribe to the idea that there are many "right" ways to provide quality learning environments which meet the unique needs of children and families; we uphold our commitment to honor this individuality through quality indicators specifically designed for the distinct characteristics of MicroSchools.

What is MicroSchool Accreditation?
NCMSE Accreditation is a voluntary process of self-review which is peer reviewed and verified by an independent advisory board ensuring the MicroSchool fulfills a set of quality indicators which meet the unique and varied needs of the children and families whom they serve. This process includes five phases including: Self-Study, Application/Quality Inventory, Peer Review/Site Visit, Decision, and Maintain/Re-accreditation.
