Peer Review/Site Visit

Step 3: Peer Review/Site Visit

Once your application package has been processed and approved, you may enter the Peer Review/Site Visit phase. Before choosing a Peer Reviewer, be sure they meet the NCMSE qualification criteria.

What does a Peer Reviewer do?

A Peer Reviewer is a professional with specific knowledge and experience in education, child development, human services, or another related field that can be utilized to evaluate overall program quality as it relates to NCMSE Quality Indicators.

What are the qualification requirements for a Peer Reviewer?

You can find a list of qualification requirements for Peer Reviewers in your Self Study Kit. This list will help you identify people in your community who may be willing to conduct your Site Visit.

Will I know when my Peer Reviewer will be arriving and how long the visit will last?

Your Peer Reviewer will arrive unannounced during a two week window of time you have both agreed upon. The visit should take place on what you consider to be a typical day (not a day with special events/activities unless they are a regular part of your program). Be sure to communicate with your Peer Reviewer about what days would work best in order to meet this criteria. The site visit will be conducted on one calendar day when school is in session for no fewer than 4 hours and no more than 7 hours.

Will a representative from NCMSE conduct a site visit?

A representative(s) from NCMSE may conduct a site visit to independently verify your application materials. If a representative from NCMSE conducts a site visit, the representative will arrive at the same date and time as your Peer Reviewer. Your Peer Reviewer will be notified of this in advance.

What happens after my Peer Reviewer conducts the site visit?

Your Peer Reviewer will complete the Quality Compliance Booklet (QCB) and submit it to NCMSE.

These three items (Application, Quality Inventory, and Quality Compliance Booklet (completed by your Peer Reviewer) complete your application package and will be submitted to the NCMSE Advisory Board for review. Accreditation Packages are reviewed quarterly and must be submitted by the following dates:
